About Onyx
Onyx is a variety of chalcedony which can come in a wide variety of colours. It may display bands of colour. The name ‘onyx’ is often wrongly associated to other minerals, such as banded calcite. It is found in large quantities in Brazil, Peru, Afghanistan, India, Madagascar, Mexico and the United States.
Onyx has a long history of being used to create stone carvings and jewelry. In Ancient Egypt, it was used to create bowls amongst other objects. Ancient romans wore onyx amulets with engravings of Mars, the god of war, for courage. To this day, black onyx remains one of the most popular stone for stabilizing and amplifying one’s power and determination, courage and engagement with the world.
