Chalcopyrite Specimen (Peacock Ore)

A chunk of colourful peruvian chalcopyrite specimen, part of the pyrite family. Chalcopyrite is also called peacock ore due to the wide range of colours it displays. Chalcopyrite is a crystallized type of copper ore, and is found in abundance in copper mines. The colours occur naturally in conditions where the temperature is high, they accentuate themselves in contact with air, and can also be emphasized in an acid bath. This mineral, although it showcases a metallic shimmer, is not a type of metal.
