Tumbled Pocket StonesCalcite – Yellow Optical Calcite Tumbled Pocket Stone
4.85$
A specimen of yellow optical calcite tumbled pocket stone.
Yellow calcite, when found in high clarity rhombohedral crystals, is known as yellow optical calcite. Like clear optical calcite, it is a calcium carbonate mineral prized for its birefringence (double refraction), but its warm golden to honey-yellow coloration sets it apart. This color is typically caused by trace impurities such as iron, which tint the otherwise colorless calcite crystal. The luster is vitreous, and in high-quality pieces the transparency can rival that of clear Iceland spar, making it both a collector’s and lapidary favorite.
With a Mohs hardness of 3, yellow optical calcite is relatively soft and requires careful handling to avoid scratching. It belongs to the trigonal crystal system. Significant deposits are found in Mexico, Brazil, and Peru, with Mexico being a major source for gem-grade material (although it is too soft to make proper jewelry).
In metaphysical traditions, yellow optical calcite is considered a stone of vitality, mental clarity, and self-confidence. While clear calcite is associated with pure amplification and higher consciousness, yellow calcite is thought to add the energies of personal will, optimism, and creative drive. It is often used to stimulate the Solar Plexus Chakra, empowering action, decision-making, and the integration of new insights into everyday life.
