A natural, polished celestite palmstone. Celestite, also known as celestine, consists of strontium sulfate (SrSO4) and is named for its delicate blue color, derived from the Latin word “caelestis” meaning celestial. It is found most notably in Madagascar. Celestine occurs in sedimentary rocks, particularly dolomites and dolomitic limestones, throughout the world and also is present in hydrothermal veins and in cavities in basic eruptive rocks.
