Mahogany obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass. Its distinctive color results from iron and other mineral inclusions within the obsidian matrix. Significant deposits are found in the United States (particularly Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico), Mexico, and other regions with historical volcanic activity.

In metaphysical traditions, mahogany obsidian is considered a grounding and protective stone.
