Smoky Quartz Sphere

A natural, polished smoky quartz sphere. Sphere made in Canada from Brazilian quartz. The color of smoky quartz is produced when natural radiation, emitted from the surrounding rock, activates color centers around aluminum impurities within the crystalline quartz. This variety of quartz forms in masses and crystal structures of all sizes and can be found all over the world. Just like clear quartz, it is a mineral made of oxygen and silicone atoms; it has the formula SiO2 and belongs to the trigonal crystal system. It has a Mohs hardness of 7, making it a relatively hard mineral. It has a vitreous luster and conchoidal fracture, and it is piezoelectric, meaning it can generate an electric charge under mechanical stress.

Quartz spheres have a rich history that spans back to ancient times. People believed that quartz could cleanse and energize environments, and it was often used in decorative and spiritual practices.
